What To Do DURING Your Workout
I hear it almost EVERY day:
“I’m good at getting to the gym (or home gym) for a workout. But once I’m there, I don’t know where to start! What exercises do I do first? Is there an order that I’m supposed to follow?”
The answer – as always – is:
“What are you goals!?”
After you can answer that, the next thing to know is that yes, there should be a strategy to your workouts!
Yes, certain muscle groups should be worked before others.
Yes, it matters if you do full-body workouts, or body-part “split” workouts.
Yes, it’s AMAZING that you got yourself to your workout. Now, let’s make it even better!
Check out this week’s video below to learn a bit more.
Tweetable: The strategy behind your workouts will determine your success…or lack of.
There are a few rules of thumb….rule of thumbs?…rules of thumbs?…I’m confused.
There are a few things to keep in mind when you are ready to begin your strength workout. If you are somewhat new at the whole strength training thing, or have been experimenting for about a year, use this approach:
- Begin your workouts with lower body strengthening moves
- Next move on to Pulling or Back moves
- Next up is Pushing or Chest moves
- Then juggle your way around Shoulders, Biceps and Triceps.
What about Abs?? Oh lady…that’s a whole other story. More on that later.
Keep in mind that the above is a very traditional protocol for strength training and is the best place to spend more of your time. Yes, there a million ways and reasons to juggle the order, but let’s don’t get too ahead of ourselves just yet! As you know, Imma a talker. And we’ve got lots to cover in the future.

Forget trying to “Make Over” your workout. All you need to do is “Make Better.”
Stay strong, friend.
This really does help. I never knew until I got your book and with this video that there really is an order you should follow. I love strength training and I appreciate all of the knowledge I have obtained from you. It has made such a difference.
