3 Reasons Why You CRAVE Carbs

I remember one day in my twenties I was exhausted to the point where I crashed on my couch and could not stop thinking about lemon pound cake.

I had gone for an 8 mile run in Central Park in the morning (on an empty stomach) and waited until noon to eat lunch (a salad). Around 2:00 I couldn’t focus on anything other than lemon pound cake. I bundled up for the winter storm outside and trudged through the snow in search of lemon pound cake.

As I walked New York City in my quest I tried to figure out why I had such an intense need for lemon pound cake.

“Ahhhh, this must be what it means to turn to comfort foods in response to deep emotional issues.”

“I know I’ve got my issues…but…I don’t really feel like I have deep unprocessed emotional issues.”

And for many years I viewed my carb and sugar cravings as a sign that I have some emotional stuff to work on!

Thankfully many, many years later I realized that my eating habits around my workouts were disaster and the true cause of my sugar cravings. A few simple tricks later and bye-bye lemon pound cake!

Disclaimer: No lemon pound cakes where harmed or exploited in this story. We respect lemon pound cakes, and support the consumption of them in moderation.

Check out the video below to learn 3 very specific reasons why you might be CRAVING carbs! Hint: It may NOT be because you have repressed emotional stuff going on. This video will help you uncover some missteps that you might be making and how to resolve them.

Now, it’s absolutely normal to have a sweet tooth at times and choose to find something yummy to resolve it. In fact, I found myself in this situation just last week. So my amazing sis (and master in the kitchen) whipped up this awesome treat:

1 yummy apple (I like Pink Lady), sliced thinly

Small pat of butter

Squeeze of lemon

Dash of cinnamon and nutmeg

2 Tbsp pure maple syrup

Put all of the above in a 9×9 baking pan

Cover with foil

Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes

Garnish with toasted pecans for extra satisfaction!

18 grams of protein at breakfast?! Yikes, I’ve got some work to do. Just eating a hot bowl of porridge on this snowy morning. I’ve topped it with a couple of tablespoons of chia seeds, a drizzle of honey, and a lots of cinnamon. What else could I top it with to up my protein please??
