Superhuman

In case you didn’t know, we just wrapped up our first Women’s Strength Nation LIVE event in San Diego and it was…… F A N T A S T I C … and … M A G I C A L!!! Honestly, I’m not sure that I can come up with enough words to accurately describe the weekend. “Magical” is a good start but it doesn’t describe the chills that we all felt. “Empowering” works…but doesn’t encompass the ways that many women were changed. “Revolutionary” reads “self-important” and doesn’t bring gravity to the valuable tools that we shared that will help women for the rest their lives. Let’s leave it at this: It was amazing.

I came home from the weekend and immediately got sick. Like, sicker-than-I’ve-been-in-8-years, kind of sick. I was literally on the couch for two weeks! You see, I don’t get sick. Period. I’m superhuman. So this caught me off guard. I was on a high from the most exciting thing I’ve ever done and had NO time to be sick! I had to save the world! I had to spread the word of Women’s Strength Nation and help more women! I had to write, and blog, and create videos, and plan the next event, and make the website WOW and HELP. MORE. WOMEN.

I put my heart and soul into this first Women’s Strength Nation LIVE event. Actually, I poured every last drop of my entire life force into this event so that I could help women to live better. I understand now why I got so sick when I returned. There was nothing left in me. I gave it my all and my immune system had nothing left to defend me. I’m not superhuman after all. And I would do it again in a minute. It was the most rewarding thing I’ve done in a very, very long time.

But here’s the thing. Because I was so sick for two weeks I wasn’t able to be on my feet and do my job helping women. I gave my everything to the people in that room two weekends ago, and that caused me to be limited in my ability to help you. And this is the very thing that I work on with all of my women clients. They give their heart and soul to their families, their jobs, their partners, and at some point they end up on the couch, sick and tired. See, they’re not superhuman either.

In order to be your best you, you have to reserve some time and space to take care of yourself. As women, we are built to take care of others. It is in our DNA. We will kill ourselves in order to help another. It is a beautiful trait. But you see, you are not superhuman either.

In order to be strong for your children, to be masterful in your career, to be supportive of your partner, to be available to your friends, you must carve out some space in your life where you can put yourself first. You have to find the tools that keep you full of the magical life force that is unique to you. I get so filled up with joy when I put on music and work out with no regard for time. It makes me happy. Maybe you refill by taking time out to read. A manicure can do wonders for the spirit. And yet, we tend to feel guilty about all of these activities. They somehow seem indulgent.

This weekend, I want you to find some space to abandon the guilt and indulge in your recharge activity of choice. Fill your soul. Spark your life force. Because in my eyes we are all superhuman. And we have to save the world.

Make a commitment and share with me your recharge activity of choice in the Comments below. What fills you up? What causes a spark in you?

My recharge activity for this weekend will be working on my DIY pallet patio furniture. I love repurposing items and creating new pieces.

I signed up to take a self-paced hand lettering course. I will spend some time this weekend watching the course videos and learning how to hand letter.
