3 Tips to Make EVERY Move Better

Updated July 30, 2019

You know those moments when you are doing an exercise, let’s say a Dumbbell Side Raise and you think you’re doing it right, but something feels a bit off? You have a suspicion that something isn’t quite perfect in your technique, but you’re just not sure what to do?

When you put your body into a great starting position you are setting yourself up for optimal success.

Remember when you were little and learning to write? Your teacher had you sit up straight in your chair, with your butt touching the back of the chair, your feet firmly planted on the floor and your shoulders back. Remember? This positioning would set you up for better penmanship! The same rules apply to your strength training workouts.

By putting your body into a specific position before you begin a move, you are creating a foundation to push and pull from properly. By putting your Shoulders in place before you begin your Biceps Curl, you are ensuring that the right muscles will be used during the move.
A very common mistake I see TONS of women make is that they pick up a set of dumbbells and begin. In my experience, most women are a bit weak in their Deltoid (Shoulder) muscles. Without proper positioning at the start, they end up relying on the muscles around the neck to move. This means that the Deltoids aren’t getting the strengthening that they need. In short, you end up compensating and using other muscles rather than the ones that you intend!

In order to create the most visually beautiful physique, you must ensure that your technique is great.

I really value your workouts and advice. I’d encourage you to take voice lessons so your tone is less shrill and less “valley girl.” Thank you for all you do.

      Hey Kleerob,

Thanks so much, I agree! I’m stubborn in my ways and just haven’t taken the time yet. Thank you for the feedback.

Holly, you are awesome and your voice is just fine, you sound nothing like a valley girl. Even if you did that would be ” like totally cool, like really!”
