How Strength Training is Different for Women

Women’s Strength Nation is a community of women, for women, coming together in a conversation about strength.

Through the practice of strength training, you will discover a new sense of what it means to be strong. Your new physical strength inspires personal and spiritual strength.

I am on a personal mission to improve the ratio of women to men strength training in gyms around the world.

And I hope you’ll join me.

As the founder of Women’s Strength Nation, I will be sending out these email updates every other week. On the opposite weeks, I will be sending out email updates on other health and fitness topics from my Holly Perkins account. You can sign up for those email updates HERE.

This week I have a fun video for you. Apparently, my new book Lift to Get Lean struck a chord with women everywhere because I am getting calls from every major magazine asking for insights to women’s strength training. There are very few things that make me happier than knowing that women are embracing being strong. I do love a good donut…and dogs make me really happy. But to know that you are eager to learn makes me deeply happy.

In an interview this week, the journalist asked some great questions. She wanted to know exactly how strength is different for women as compared to men. Check out this video to learn some pretty interesting stuff about yourself. Because here’s the deal….

You are special.

As a woman, you are wildly unique. Everything about you is different. You are special. You have the ability to create life. Do you understand how profound that is?

You are sensitive and gentle. You are delicate at times. And because the world can be harsh, you are often harsh with yourself. There are times when you are your own worst enemy. Why is that? Why is that?

It does not matter if someone once criticized you, or caused you to feel less than them. It does not matter if someone once said you are selfish…insensitive…angry…unattractive. It does not matter because the only way that person could be right is if you decided that they were right. And if you decided that, then you can un-decide as well.

It does you no good to be your worst enemy. There are women out there that need you to be amazing. There are young girls out there that look to you to learn about their own amazingness. There is a place where you will be celebrated for celebrating yourself. There are other women who will cheer for you when you stand tall in your gorgeousness.

This is how strength training is different for women as compared to men.

We are different.

Stay for a minute and check out this video with some great information. Then, tell me about your own path to strong. How do you adjust your workouts to address the needs of your body? What other information about strength training do you need? I’d love to hear from you. Please share in the Comments section below.

I am trying to get into strength training to help me get rid of belly fat and weight. My doctor told me this was the only way to get rid of the belly fat. I have MS which effects only one side of my body. I can do some of the strength exercises. Do you have any suggestions for me? Would it be better for me to use the strength machines? I can do the exercise on page 46 of your book and a few others, but not all of them right. I am hoping I will be able to do more of them as I progress. What are your thoughts on this, do you think this is the right approach? Thanks for any suggestions you can give me. Sue seiter
