How to Set and Achieve Your Goals (Without the Sabotage)

Updated October 1, 2019

If reaching your goal was simple, you’d have succeeded by now.

The truth is, achieving big goals is not always easy. Especially when it comes to body transformation.

There are two parts to changing your body:

  1. A proven strategy that shows you HOW to achieve your goal
  2. The mental discipline and mindset to keep you taking action

I’ve always said that the nuts and bolts of getting into shape and losing weight are actually pretty simple. What’s not so simple is your personality.

Why do you hold yourself back? Why do you NOT do the things you know you need to do in order to succeed? Be your human, that’s why.

So today we’re talking about how to set and achieve your goals, and avoid the common challenge of sabotage.

One of the most important things you absolutely must do is to sit down with a piece of paper and write out (yes, by hand!) your exact goals.

What exactly do you truly want for yourself? And precisely why do you want it?

It’s important to take some time and really think and FEEL into these two questions. WHY do you want to lose weight? WHY do you want to start eating better?

I must admit, I’ve gotten pretty good at identifying a very specific and effective list of goals. For me, the harder part is ensuring that I take the necessary actions required to achieve the goals! For me, it’s an easy thing to list out clear goals, but the real work sets in when it comes to taking action!

This is one of the biggest things my clients struggle with. You too? Comment below and tell me a bit about the ways that you hold yourself back. I’d love to learn more.

“Just when I start to see results, I sabotage myself.”

I heard this from a member of The Comeback this week. And I was like, “I used to do the same thing!” until I figured out how NOT to do it.

The most important thing you can do to stay on track and avoid this kind of sabotage is…

  1. Get your hands on a very specific program and FOLLOW IT.
  2. Put your head down and TAKE ACTION until you reach your goal.
  3. Do not stop. Do not look up. Do not shift gears until you reach your goal.

If you do this, you relieve yourself of tons of needless mental gymnastics of “maybe I should do this” and “maybe I should start eating that.”

Unconstructive self-negotiation is a waste of energy and is the seed of sabotage.
