Should You Stretch Before a Workout?

You know that stretching is super important. As I mentioned in THIS BLOG, it’s one of the best ways to promote body alignment and muscle recovery. And it just feels good!

The next step to figure out when to stretch!

I find the best way to approach this topic is to categorize your stretching sessions in one of two ways:

  • A session of 5-10 minutes that focuses on very gentle, range of motion moves that naturally open up your muscles and joints. This could happen any time: before a workout, after a workout or even as a mid-day energy boost!
  • A stand-alone session of 20-60 minutes that is all about deeper stretches that truly improve your actual flexibility. This should happen away from other workouts and be focus on long, slow poses.

Thanks Holly. Your explanation did help. I am in the second 30 day stage and was getting worried that I was not doing enough warm up or stretching as I reduced my pre cardio to just about 5 – 8 minutes. I have now started to do stretching in the morning at home and lifting at the gym in the evenings after work
